We’re now introduced to the Clasky family, who’re sitting around the pool waiting for them. They gesture for Monica and Flor to join them. Flor is then introduced to Deborah Clasky (a rather neurotic, workaholic-type) who is no longer working, but is a stay-at-home mum, Evelyn (Deborah’s mum, who’s a bit of an alcoholic) and Deborah's two children Bernice and her brother, Georgie. Flor gets the job, for which she is paid a nice amount of money for.

Part of the movie's brilliance is the way it shows how Deborah's questionable mothering drives Flor crazy with determination not to lose her daughter. But the frippery of the Claskys' bourgeois life is too strong for Cristina to resist. On the car ride home from their afternoon of girl power, Cristina tells Deborah ''You're the nicest white woman I've ever met," turning a century of Hollywood racial condescension sideways. The girl's not passing for white, she's passing for well off, which I guess you could equate with a sort of cultural whiteness.

The Hunt For The Worst Movie Of All Time: Spanglish…

In the meantime, John opens a new restaurant, but falls into a temporary depression because of the stress of the business, while Deborah begins an affair. Deborah enrolls Cristina into a private school with Bernice, upsetting Flor, who wants Cristina to keep in touch with her Mexican roots and working-class values. Flor feels that her employer is overstepping her bounds and voices her objection to John, who tells her he is also frustrated with Deborah because Bernice has no support system from her own mother. Flor tries to encourage Bernice and build her self-confidence, by showing her small acts of kindness, especially after Deborah has been hard on her.

9. Spanglish (2004)
Despite how emotionally-manipulative this movie is (and how brutally obnoxious 's character is), Spanglish has some great moments. For once, Sandler is actually believable as a romantic lead as he falls in love with his beautiful housekeeper when his wife strays from the nest.
Domestic box office: $43 million

With Adam Sandler, Téa Leoni, Paz Vega, Cloris Leachman

Spanglish was one of my favourite movies that I have seen in a long time. There is no crazy action heroes, no hilarious comedy it’s not even physiologically thrilling. It’s almost a love story. Adam Sandler plays a serious role and falls in love with a Spanish nanny that his wife hires. Her name is Floor (curl your tongue at the end of the word and let it rollllll out). Floor ends up having to bring her child to stay with this family and they love the child.
